CREATIONS OF COUNTRY
BLAK BOTANICS
Our People have been shaping stories on this country
for generations & native flora has always played
a very strong part of that telling process.
Blak Botanics is about celebrating the
beauty & diversity of flora native to this country.
From bunches to bouquets, arrangements to installations, projects to special moments,
we are a First Nations led business,
working sustainably, collaborating and
learning with plenty of stories to tell.
Let's create a new one together!
BLAK BOTANICS
We can work together to help bring
your creation & idea to life.
Personalised arrangements can be made for those special events, a special someone or for when you need something a little different.
Start with a deadly idea & anything can happen!
Currently servicing Sunshine Coast, Brisbane and some Southeast Queensland areas. Though, I do travel and often take creations with
me or make on country so, just reach out.
My name is Nadine McDonald-Dowd & I am a
Yuwi women from Mackay North Queensland.
At 49 years of age, I decided to do something that
brings me & so many people joy. I’ve worked for over
30 years in the arts industry & well, it was time,
so, I did a certificate 3 in Floristry.
There is so much for me to learn, to listen to
& to hopefully share as this little venture begins
to grow & blossom - pun intended.
I’m a simple person who loves working with our
native flora & ultimately just want to share that
joy with others.
Thanks for your support.

YOUNGA BAGA
mother tree -yuwi
I completed my certificate 3 in Floristry in 2023 & as a graduation piece, we needed to create a display that showcased all of our learnings throughout the course.
I wanted to create something that spoke to who I am as a Yuwi Woman & what is important to me. I also wanted to celebrate the deadly beauty of the banksia in all its forms, textures, colours & sizes!
This work included Robur, Wallum, Candlestick and even the Possum banksia, with paperbark, grasses, branches and foliage all native to country.
The 2023 National NAIDOC Week theme was For Our Elders.
Our Elders are our wisdoms keeper. They have witnessed the many changes and are the leaders of our communities.
YOUNG BAGA acknowledges the strong Yuwi Elders on my life and the important role they play in who I am today.

Burn - YUWI
GANDA came to life after a series of burn offs were done on Kabi Kabi Country, and for me was a gentle reminder that for new life to happen, there needs to be a farewell. Yet in that afterburn, there is beauty, colour, textures, shape and a sense of smell so powerful.
“It starts with a flicker.
The bush begins to burn & crackle under the heat of the fire. Then there is silence. What is left behind is a constant reminder of change. For growth to take place, it must be burned.
New beginnings.”
